Both Mariah and John Dunning have had connections to Orcas Island since their childhoods.  John’s family built a home on the Westside of Orcas Island just prior to his birth. He spent his first 13 years spending summers and other holidays on the island. John is a graduate of University of Oregon with a degree in business management and marketing. As an adult, John’s primary residence became Sonoma County where he participated in development of several properties and businesses during the course of his career as an entrepreneur. Every opportunity that presented brought John and his family back to the San Juan Islands to boat, and vacation.  In 1997 he purchased the Windermere San Juan Island office and made his long time dream to come home to the San Juans a reality.  In 2004, he purchased the Windermere Orcas Island office, bringing him even closer to his original roots to the islands.

After selling the Windermere San Juan office in 2009, John shifted his focus to Windermere Orcas Island and Northwest Island Escapes, the vacation rental management company that he owns. In 2014 he made the move to Orcas Island full time.

Mariah’s family moved to Orcas in 1988, where Mariah attended Orcas Middle and High Schools.  After graduating from Orcas High School with honors, Mariah attended Vassar College in New York where she majored in International Studies.  Her studies and passion for travel brought her down to the Caribbean where she lived aboard a sail boat exploring all that this archipelago of islands has to offer.  In 1997 she returned home to Orcas Island and began her own entrepreneurial path, owning and operating several businesses, eventually moving into real estate in 2001.  She joined the Windermere office in 2006 and moved into the position of general manager in 2008.

Together, Mariah and John bring a broad and diverse background of business as well as commercial and residential real estate experience. Working as a team, they strive to provide their brokers with the best tools and resources in the business, and their real estate clients with top notch professional service. Their newly constructed office creates an inviting and welcoming space for clients to meet with their brokers and Sellers to have their properties showcased.
